When the infection hits critical mass in an urban center, you will have a window of approximately 4 to 12 hours before major roadways gridlock and martial law is declared. If you are packing your bags while the sirens are ringing, you are already too late.
Your objective is to survive the 72-hour transit from the Red Zone to a Green Zone. Here is the data-driven loadout required to make that journey.
1. Hydration is Priority Zero
You can survive three weeks without food, but only three days without water. Do not weigh your bag down with gallons of bottled water. Instead, focus on purification.
- Lifestraw or Sawyer Mini: Filters 99.9% of waterborne bacteria and parasites from puddles or rivers.
- Single-wall stainless steel canteen: Can be placed directly into a fire to boil water.
2. Caloric Density (Food)
Canned beans are heavy and loud. MREs are bulky. You need maximum calories for minimal weight.
- SOS Ration Bars: Coast guard approved, these taste like dense shortbread and provide 3,600 calories in a tiny package.
- Peanut butter packets: Extremely high in fat and protein for sustained energy.
3. Shelter and Core Temperature
Hypothermia will kill you faster than the infected. If you are forced to sleep in the woods or an abandoned building, you must retain body heat.
- Mylar Emergency Bivvy: Reflects 90% of your body heat back to you. Much better than a standard flat space blanket.
- Three sources of fire: A bic lighter, stormproof matches, and a ferrocerium rod.
4. The Trauma Kit (IFAK)
Standard first aid kits are for scraped knees. You need an Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK) designed for severe trauma.
- CAT Tourniquet: To stop massive arterial bleeding.
- Israeli Bandage: A pressure dressing for deep puncture wounds.
